- Australians speak English, but a so-called Australian English since certain terms do not have the same meaning as in other English-speaking countries. If you are used to British or American English, you will also find the pronunciation very distinctive.
- Australians are very friendly and love to socialize. Do not be surprised if someone addresses you by your first name or simply as mate. Titles accompanied by surnames are used only very rarely.
- Between flavors from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Australian outback, Australian cuisine has its own characteristics and can be surprising.
- While beer is indeed the national drink of Australia, Australian wines have a great reputation worldwide and represent one of the country's main exports.
- Australians are fond of barbecues: savory, sweet, meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, fruit—there are barbies for all tastes.
- Sporting culture is very widespread in Australia, and most Australians practice at least one sport.
